Mindanao Island in the Philippines Suffered
Major Damages After Three Consecutive Earthquakes

The Island of Mindanao, Philippines has been struck with three strong consecutive earthquakes on October 16, 29 and 31. More than 180,000 people were affected and are now requiring humanitarian assistance to access shelter, food and drinking water. Authorities also reported 21 casualties and 400 people injured.

The region which has suffered more than 35 earthquakes since the early 1900s is left with heavy damages to its infrastructures, residential buildings and hotels. Local authorities have announced the demolition of a hotel, Eva’s Hotel, which was heavily impacted by the earthquakes.

Monitor local media sources to remain apprised of any earthquake-related developments and remain alert to any emergency directives issued by authorities.

Contact your travel agent or your hotel for updates on the safety of the building and surrounding areas.

In case of more shakings, be sure to follow earthquake safety measures such as:

  • Standing against a wall, in a doorway, crawling under heavy and solid furniture or laying in a bathtub
  • Staying inside your car if you are traveling by car
  • Staying away from buildings, power lines and streetlights if you are outdoor
